As North America’s infrastructure ages and urban population growth strains capacity, the Air, Rail, Mass Transit, and Utilities sectors are investing billions of dollars into infrastructure. State has long been an important player in this market.

As a proven infrastructure service provider, State has the requisite experience in executing complex and multi-phase extended term mandates. These often require massive amounts of coordination between various stakeholders to deliver value-for-money solutions in a timely and safe manner. Whether as a Prime Proponent or part of an international consortium, State brings a wealth of experience and resources to the Public/Private/Partnership (P3) industry. Our capabilities include the expertise to conceptually assist in the design stage prior to Financial Close, on through to project execution and ultimately Final Completion and Operation Acceptance. Specific segments of the Transportation and Infrastructure industry in which State has a strong presence are:

  • Airports – including terminals, baggage handling, security, communications, and utility support systems
  • Mass Transit – utilities, traction power, control cabling, maintenance facilities, and life safety systems
  • Healthcare including hospitals, and long term care facilities
  • Power generation, transmission, and distribution
Case Studies
GTAA Installation of Baggage Handling System
This project involved the mechanical and electrical installation, testing and commissioning of the entire new state of the art Baggage Handling System and CATSA baggage security system for the New Terminal One at Pearson International Airport. This project was completed over an eight year period during which there were two separate phases and involved the live switch over of conveyor sub systems to facilitate the public opening of the airport.
TTC Finch Station Ventilation Upgrade
The work was for the installation of fire ventilation system in order to protect patrons during a major fire evacuation.
St. Johns Rehabilitation Hospital
The project included installation of new FA system throughout the existing facility, amalgamated with the East Wing. A new security system was installed throughout the existing facility and new wing along with a new electrical service comprising of new H/V gear, power transformers, L/V switchboard to feed the entire facility, and a new generator to feed the East Wing with a complex ATS and Kirk key scheme to allow the system to be fed from the two generators. The transfer from existing to new electrical service was accomplished by placing the entire existing facility on a mobile generator to keep the facility in operation while the East Wing was under construction.
Sault Area Hospital
The State Group was the electrical and mechanical contractor to the Ellis Don/Carillion Joint Venture for the new Sault Area Hospital which was a build, finance, and operate project for Infrastructure Ontario. Approximately 650,000 square feet, the new Greenfield hospital has 289 beds in a three-level complex.
TTC York Mills Station Fire Ventilation Upgrade
The work State completed for the TTC consisted of a ventilation modernization and upgrade program to provide sufficient ventilation capacity to protect patrons during evacuation, in the event of a major fire in the subway system.
Dongara Pellet Plant
The Dongara Pellet Plant was a green field design build construction of a new state of the art plant for garbage recycling. This plant is the first of its kind in the world which processes green bag garbage from the Region of York. The garbage is fully sorted, fiberized and then processed into a fuel pellet for shipment to other facilities off site.
